Researchers at Los Angeles-based City of Hope recently announced promising results for a new chemotherapy pill that "appears to annihilate all solid tumors," according to research published Aug. 1 in Cell Chemical Biology.

The pill targets a small-molecule PCNA inhibitor, which the health system explains is "a protein that, in its active form, helps DNA replication and repair" but is overproduced in cancer cells. The AOH1996 pill works by inhibiting this protein, effectively slowing down the growth of cancer cells. One aspect that could be further explored is the potential side effects of the AOH1996 pill.
